installing sound system on e39
Hi guys, I just bought a 97 BMW 528i, fully loaded. I love it besides the fact that it doesn't have a CD player. Now I basically just wanted to add a sub and an amp to this car unless I get some better suggestions from experts like you. Also I forgot to mention that I would like to keep the stock front cuz I dont want to ruin the image with an after market deck in place of that, the stock just looks too nice to ruin that Thats why I just wanted to add a sub and an amp but how would I connect my mp3 player to play the music? help me out thanks.

fm transmitter or aux in. if you want you can hook up an aftermarket deck in the glovebox (overhaulin style ).

does the stock head unit have aux in
and secondly asking what kinda subs and amp you want is like asking what car should i buy. tell us your budget, what your looking for in terms of power, any specific brands?

You know its time to get rid of the e39 for something newer when kids talk of dropping systems into what was once the standard in luxury sport sedans.

As you now know, the stock stereo was designed by the same person who designed the cup holders. They both suck!!
We don't have an AUX IN, but we can use something like this:

I also put in an "Infinity Basslink" sub woofer to add a bit more bass.
Overall, this makes the sound system OK.

go with alpine then. you wont look back. a nice dual voice coil type r sub should do the trick with an alpine mono block amp.
the future shop site doesnt show alpine stock so im not sure if you guys sell it. I know bestbuy started selling it this year.

I have the Bavarian Sound Works 10 inch deck mounted sub in my E39 and love it. It doesn't take up too much space, sounds awesome and you can install it yourself. I have never installed any stereo equipment and id mine myself. The build quality of the enclosure is awesome and it mounts to factory points on the read deck lid in the trunk. Pics on my site.!
