PIMP deck man! I still have one sitting in my basement I think. Sound quality was great for its time! It was a hand-me-down from my uncle, it had the external amp as well. the model i had has no internal amp.
and I had a 9887 for a short time. nothing special about it NOTORIOUS VR. I do agree Its the best deck to buy for the price now though! I bought it at cost, and I sold it last month. Alpine electronics are so appealing at cost prices.

Nothing special about it? Yes you praise the old POS? Come on....
haha sorry mAn! The old alpine has sentimental value to me!
Did you adjust the time alignment yet on your 9887? Did you buy the extra module?
LOL...
Nope... Although I think it's a good feature to have (for some people).. Time alignment kinda goes out of whack anyway with all the 'new' noises your car makes while driving. But I'm making good use of the Crossovers and Parametric EQ... They're both very very good imo.
And for me I still like listening to my CD's. The quality is just simply better then listening through an iPod. And it's a noticeable difference.
Also, no I haven't bought the Imprint thing yet.. but I would love to try it out. Most people say it's brilliant. But at over $200, I'm quite happy how I've been able to tune the deck to my ear's for now
nothing better then listening to some beastie boy's licensed to ill album on cassette in a beater.
BEEN THERE DONE THAT!!
How about the same track of REM: Loosing my Religion because it's caught in constant loop, over and over and over and over again. I put a hammer through the dash of that car.
Hey, good news ! The power supply was gone on this 7909 unit, so I had the unit repaired by Chris at S&S electronics here in Toronto (www.s-selectronics.com/978/index.html). Highly hghly recommended repair shop ! WC Enterprises in Markham http://www.wcent.ca/ (Canadian Alpine authorized repair shop) said it was not repairable due to part being NLA...haha !
Sounds amazing ! I Havent heard anything this clean in car audio ever !!
Even the installer was impressed , and hes been doing car audio for 20+ years...
