Advice on buy a used '87 325i

Hey guys... I just found a used '87 325i for sale with only 60,000 KM and am looking to buy it as my everyday car. The guys says he drove it all summer and that it runs perfectly. He hasn't started it in a while but says it probably just needs a boost and it'll start.

Being completely useless when it comes to cars, I'm in need of some advice.

What should I watch out for?

What is the price range for these beauties?

And... most importantly, where is the best place in Ottawa to bring it in for an inspection before I buy it? (I'm assuming for the price that it'll need some work but I need to know how much.)

Also, any other advice about driving/maintaining these cars during Ottawa's unforgiving winter would be greatly appreciated...

Until then... cheers!

Oh... and thanks in advance for any help.

look for rust especially floor, engine bay and trunk sides.
check all power accessories. listen to the engine.
rust will be the main thing - everything else is fixable.

^^ I disagree, an unmolested low KM rust free e30 can have highly varied value, depending on the buyer. If I totaled my e30 today, I could be looking for years to find another one in the shape its in, therefore I'd pay top dollar. However, if you're just looking for any ol' car, then its probably not worth it to even own an e30.

87 is a great year since you don't have to etest them year after year.

If you are serious about the car, get the Duss Brothers garage to go over it with a fine tooth comb. That will usually help get the sale price DOWN since they'll find a million tiny things wrong. Don't get them to do the safety though, or they'll insist all those things are fixed first. A normal garage won't even notice them.

If you drive it in the winter, get it Krowned. I went to Ottawa Auto on Catherine near Bronson, they were great.

Buy a Haynes manual, bookmark e30tech.com and r3vlimited.com and ask for a bunch of tools for xmas.

Do you have a link, pics, etc to this sale?
