What MP3 headunit can match my e36 HK 10 speaker 320watt system

Hey all, I'm just trying to figure out which MP3 headunit will be best for my 10 yr old Harmon Kardon 10 speaker 320 watt system on my e36 328is... i do not now much about decks but i do notice they usually have only 50 watts times 4 im assuming 50watts through 4 channels? but if i have 10 speakers will i get the full sound, anyone??

your e36 has an amp, so its not all about the headunit's wattage. Are you running the stock speakers and stock amp? Or are you running aftermarket speakers?

It does not matter what wattage the head unit is if you're using an external amp. What you're looking for is good signal processing. Alpine is good, but if you're really picky, go with their older models, which seem to be better quality than their new stuff.

Go with the same one I have... Alpine CDA 9887r

It has amber/red lighting and a white LCD display. MP3, Ipod controls... it's the best deck out there now in my opinion.

thanks guys... btw Gamite I have a stock amp Harmon Kardon that came as an option in all e36's, i do believe 320watts, I take it as long as you have any amp i do not have to worry about the headunit wattage only the signal and clarity.... thnks

The amp handles the power. Most head units only give about 60W/channel. Mainly because if you want to have good sound you use an external amp anyways. The headunit gives you the option to turn the internal amp off.

9887r? Isn't that a european model? I have the 9887, and the US/Canadian Alpine site doesn't show the 9887r at all.. I do see the 9887r FS in Europe though, seems like the only difference being it has RDS in the tuner.

Anyways... I 2nd that, the 9887 is currently the best sounding Alpine HU out there right now. It's not flashy, has adjustable lighting, has a ton of audio options (EQ, crossovers, TC, etc) and sounds amazing.
