Anyone know a fairly lenient mech. to do my safety?
The car is fine, but the airbag light in the dash doesn't light up when the key is first put in the ignition. After that, the error light doesn't come on or anything, just stays out. Might be the same for the ABS light. SOMEBODY HELP ME GET THIS SAFETIED!!

Has somebody denied you a safety for that? Most places, especially any place that doesn't know bimmers, probably isn't gonna notice. and if they do, have you considered just getting it fixed?

its a 350z, but yeah, one guy denied me for it. It was in an accident and the wiring got screwed up. I would get it fixed but I'm on a limited time frame...the dealers can't book for an appointment until a week+ from now, and I need the safety to get the car reg'd. I bought it from a cop so of course he's only running a back licence plate, and on top of that, it's expired.

You can register it as unfit, then once you have the safety you can get it plated.
You can drop it off at the mechanic until he gets to it, then when he's done he can write you a safety. Just make sure you trust your mechanic not to **** you over.

gotcha. come on, some people with E30's must know a 'fairly lenient' place? Not that there's anything wrong with those cars, but they're getting on 20 years old now.

Getting e30's safetied is easy though, not because of shady places, but because there isn't much to go wrong in a safety, since there usually aren't any electronic nanny's. No airbags, most don't have ABS, no seat sensors etc.etc.
Just bumpers, seatbelts, windshield wipers, tires, brakes, and lights. and a couple of other minor things.

You sure it's just the wiring, and that it still has an airbag? And that the bulb is even still there?
This doesn't pass the sniff test for me. You'd better be getting this one for a song.

A lot of cars are fixed with dummy airbags, or no airbags at all. If there is no airbag, the light should come on, unless a resistor was installed to trick the system. Even then, the light should come on as part of the startup unless the bulb was pulled.
I would run, not walk away from this one, unless you can be 100 percent sure that there is an airbag, and the bulb wasn't pulled. Don't take the guy's word for it, get proof.

I hope you got this car for peanuts if the air bag was deployed at one point and whoever fixed didn't do it right

yeah, I got it for roughly 20% less than it would've been. but like I said, I"m installing a momo trek wheel, so the airbag was a non-issue
