ideally you're supposed to tap the pan on the high right side of the pan. towards the back would be iffy....

I made a custom filter adapter for the m50 52 s52 with oil cooler an-fittings, and fittings
for turbo supply and oil pressure gauge. The system uses a remote oil filter ,fmoc, all an lines, and fittings. If you have a good aluminum welder,I can guide you through it.
Give me an hour, because i'm stepping out, and I'll post some pics of it.All you really need to buy are fittings and an lines,it's fairly easy to make.Plus it will look different then any other M50 oil system.

here is the filter housing, I'm currently building an insane street legel e36,in full trim
Richmond racing trans (H-pattern Seq.) 1 piece drive shaft, turbo tec3r,etc etc etc.
Race car......with a licence plate.
The oil flow is key! when making this.Trying to explain what to plug, and which way the oil flows is to difficult through pictures.Just pm me or come by and it would be alot easier to explain(bring a camera)
this is some of my street car stuff after the "ceramic house"
