Its very hard to paint chrome, and have it stick for long. You have to prep very well, scuff down the chrome and hope paint stays on. Also using a flat/textured paint seems to be way more durable...

Also you should use an adhesion promoter after you scuff it up, then primer, then paint. It's aluminum not chrome, and I think it has it's own adhesion promoter paint specifically for aluminum.

i could be wrong but ive sanded aluminum actually just finished a set of 5 rims and aluminum sands very easy and these mouldings are a very hard durable metal which are the characteristics of chrome.

i did mine last week. its still on, and trust me, its staying on and i only did one coat . k so u should sand it using that rotating metal brush machine i dunno wat its called. but after its scuffed up, get zinc paint, paint over it atleast 3-4 times, and then get black BBQ paint and do as many coats as u want. i had to use a rubber mallet on it on one point and it didnt show any signs of chipping.
i can almost guarentee this will work. Also, ive heard of people using electrical tape.
if u get me the paint, i have no problem doing it for anyone

I did electric tape once on my old eta. It looked completely acceptable for that car.

The material is aluminum and I am almost certain it is chromed plated. Being chrome, you are fugged. Get the 318is trim and call it a day.
