Usefull info re. 5spd trans.

Just an update,

A Getrag trans. will not bolt up to a BMW drive shaft with an ZF trannsmission, some people seem to just want to sell you what ever they have sitting around, and try to assure you it will work. Not realising the cost and time wasted when you have your car up and sitting their wondering why it does not fit?, and if you swap a ZF with a Getrag (it can be done$$$ ), the ratio's will be all off.

On a positive note bimmersport sold me a mint mint mint rebuilt tranny, those guys are a pleasure to deal with.

I am in the process of converting my e34 (530i m60) in to a m30 powered 5 speed. I am in search for a donor car. I have yet to find a suitable 535i 5 speed.

I'm not too worried about the engine and tranny. Mostly, i'm worried about the harness, driveshaft, differential, shifter assembly and pedals.

would a 7 seires be able to provide me with all the necessary parts? how about a e28 5speed? are those driveshafts ad transmissions the same as the e34s?

I would stick with same chassis if you doing the swap. other chassis could work but mounts, gear ratios, drive shaft lenghts might be off as well as the things you are concerned about.. An e34 5spd 525 chassis would be a good donor they are a few of them out their.

I have noticed 525 are easy to find. will the m20 subframe match the m30?

The tranny from the 525 also will not bolt up to the m30. will it?

I have a 525 link me and come see if it's the same as your m30 i would think so.

A 525 transmission (fron the m20 or m50) WILL NOT bolt-up to an m30. Just to save the dood some time..

ignitiondela - If you wanna grab the transmisson I have let me know soon as i have one person intrested already..

you will need an 8 Cylinder tranny either from a m62 or an M60.
A 6cylinder tranny will not bolt up to a 8 cylinder car. the mounting bolts/crank bolts for Flywheel are totally different.
