Anyone here own a Hummer, or knows someone who does?

My father is currently looking into buying a used hummer as a retirement gift to himself (it's been a dream of his ever since desert storm).
I'm wondering what things we should look out for, or if they're known to be prone with problems etc.
This will be the H1 model, not the gurly H2 one, and it wont be army issued either since they're too heavy and dont always come with lots of accessories. Also, would you consider this vehicle a daily driver? I'm asking because he plans on selling both of his Jimmy's to buy the hummer.

Hummer

My wife's cousin had one.

He said it was nothing he would ever consider again. Typical North American reliability problems.

Electrical glitches and problems with the deisel. Not to mention I personally took a couple of ride in it and hated the fact that you heard all the road noise, and could only fit 4 people in.

Good luck trying to park it in downtown Toronto too!

yeah i think the H2 is a little out of my father's budget. He's looking at hummers selling for $50,000 or less right now.
Reading opinions about the h1 online and on forums it seems like the real offroad enthusiasts really love them, but alot of the yuppies dont because of the harsh ride etc.
Seeing as how my dad and I love big loud trucks (especially monster trucks), i'm sure he'll love it anyway.
We'll really need to give one a test drive though to know for sure, you can't really tell from looking at it (but even that feels cool =)

The doorman (Jason) at Indian Motorcycle drives a hummer. All I know about it is that it is damn cool.

don't go for H1, it's way noisey and rough, go with H2 if you can, it's a very nice ride, it's made for the city, trust me!

Contra i talked to a guy who owned both H1 and H2, he said H2 all the way. Ride quality in H1 is horrible, very slow and bad on gas. Very uncomfortable, and said he would never go back to H1.
H1 is not an everyday car, and he said it was his worst investment. He lost a lot of monet on it and got rid of it as soon as he could. I like the look of H1 way better than H2, but he wasn't the first one who said that H1 is aweful.

i guy i work for has one, DO NOT BUY IT FROM ALBERTA or anywhere east if you cant find one in T.O. thats where he got his, they actually go off roading (rednecks). not used as a daily driver, every thing is big bucks to replace, not worth driving every day, would you drive a ferrari every day? its almost the same thing. make sure you check out front suspension components, (mechanic) he had problems with it
