These slim filters don't have the external threads for additional add ons right?

It depends on the diameter of the lens (should be printed on the lens). But as long as the diameter is correct it will work. These are "circular polarizers" as opposed to "linear" ones and are designed to work with AF cameras.
Also bear in mind that this filter will reduce your effective f-stop and thus certain cameras with already high f-stop lenses will have issues with AF working properly.

Yes, that's right. They are primarily designed for wide angle lenses to prevent vignetting. However you can screw the CP onto an existing standard filter.

ZHP, you have an EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 with a 58mm front. You cannot use any of these, BUT a circular polariser isn't pointless. You can create some neat effects that you cannot imitate in photoshop.
Example:

Just to answer some of your questions:
1. Yes there is no thread to put on your cap, but I think the slimmer the filter the less it interfers with IQ imo. And also to ensure the IQ, there are multiple coatings on the CPL filter to avoid flaring hence the term "MRC".
2. CPL does improve your IQ, less reflections on the object you're shooting. And it's good for shooting indoors too. Details.. that's the word. The only downside is reduced incoming light by 2 stops. But you can always bump up your ISO or use a tripod when shooting fixed objects.
More contrast and details recorded in your shots.
