The video is amazing... and I love the tail lights and how the headlights open up... its also nice how the spoiler can lift up and the fenders get bigger...

bmw way ahead again, i doubt you will have to worry abotu somebody slicing up your car. with modern fabrics it is perfectly plausible that it will withstand much more physical trauma then any steel shell ever will. also the color will be embedded in the fabric, so more more chipping, clearcoat scratching or any of that. I work in the tradeshow industry and fabric is the new hype material. there is ppl thinking about doing buildings with a fabric skin etc.

dont let the word "fabric" fool ya, this will be nothing like your tablecloth.

no rust, no dents EVER, no scratches, no waxing. sign me up

On the other hand. Rust underneath the fabric, tears in the fabric, not shiny finish, and faded colour from the sun.

So you solve some problems, but you gain new ones.

i would venture a guess and think they would have a non rusting material as frame, and that the fabric has more strength than steal, being against puncture or tearing. you guys are all thinking pvc tarp or something. this shit wont even really feel like fabric i bet.

You all raise good points, and I think one of the big key points here is really what this "fabric" is made of in the first place. That would be key.

You could probably engineer it to be anti-fade, you could give it a layer of sheen on the outside to give it that metallic effect (I've seen this on materials before), and you could probably even come up with a lot of interesting effects that have never been seen on cars before. Now mind you, all these features would probably make it expensive as hell. Bangle makes a point in the video about manufacturing ease... would be true, I'm sure the environmental impact of manufacturing this would be minimal compared to current metal-based bodywork, but it might not be cheaper. Not for us, the consumer, anyways.

I don't think rigidity would be an issue at all, the framework would be more than enough to keep a car like this stable. And as for the looks, keep in mind that this is a design concept. If this were to actually going to production, I can imagine them building a variety of different frames to base off of, giving you many, many options for styling. It's all malleable anyways, if you don't like it, change it.

If you can't tell, I'm still in love with this concept. Not necessarily the looks and styling of this specific car, but the entire idea behind it. This is something potentially revolutionary.
