Alternate Fuel Filter

I went looking for a fuel filter locally and came up empty handed. Does any one know or have used an alternative filter. Is there a make like Volkwagen or Saab or Volvo for example. I priced a filter up here from Carquest and it was 50 bucks so this is one reason I ask. Thanks.........Bill

I know that some Volvo and Saab can be used. I mean the filter is not size specific and there are universal fuel filters.

Thanks for the reply guys. I went on an internet hunt found a site that had a cross reference for fuel filters. Although the site was European some of the crosses were good here in North America. The BMW OEM filter was priced at 47bucks plus taxes...the one I picked up today from Napa..was 15 bucks. It is almost the same dimensions and appears to be a direct replacement. The Napa part number is GF5030. I'll be installing it tomorrow if all goes well and I guess time will tell if it is OK or not. BTW it is all steel construction....Bill
