What's the difference between 95 and 96 ti?

I was looking over a few well-known BMW tuner sites...one thing I kept on noticing is that most parts offered for the ti compact model are for 1996 and up (eg. Dinan and Hartge)

I have a 1995 ti...the only difference between 95 and 96+ I thought was a new grill design and a slightly bored out version of the 1.8L inline-4

Other than that, shouldn't parts offered for a 96 fit a 95?

Another thing...would Z3 suspension parts fit the ti? I heard about this from someone...but never gave it too much thought...

Thanks

well...there are a couple of differences.

1) The grills are the same. Kidneys were changed in 97.

2) Your car has M42 1.8l engine with OBD-I. 96+ have M44 engine with OBD-II. This is the major difference.

3) There are also small trim differences. 98+ came with vented front rotors. 95 is the only year you could get a limited edition Club Sport ti. I believe LSD was not availabe after 95 since it was replaced by traction control.

The front of the ti is the same as a 4dr up to the A pillar. The rear suspension is the same as e30 one. Rear suspension parts between z3 and e36/5 should be interchangable as well.

COOL! I have OBD-I! I heard lots of people that have OBD-II with aftermarket mods cause their ECU have a heart attack...they all want OBD-I! Hehehe!
I do have the Sport package on my ti, dont think it's a Club LTD however...
LSD came standard with Sport package...excellent for hard driving.

Thanks for all your help!

Sorry to spoil your joy but if that white ti is yours then
1) It does NOT have Sports package. It looks like an Active.
2) It may have an LSD but I doubt it.

Here are a couple of pictures of a Sport ti.

You must be kidding me!

I purchased it new from the dealer and paid like 4 grand extra for a sport package...

Those are not the original rims that came with on my car...they are my ugly snow tires...it looks much, much better with the rims on...i'll take a pic once the snow goes away.
I noticed that newer versions of the TI came with M front spoiler and side skirts and M badging...which mine didn't have...

I got it right in 95...one of the first few batches to come out in Canada.
Or maybe the Canadian version is quieted down a little bit from the version in the pictures you posted...looks like a US version with the 5-spoke rims and body kit.

What I got with the sport package was

1) M Technic lowering springs
2) Fog Lights
3) Rear window wiper
4) LSD w/ 25% lockup
5) Heated mirrors, and windshield washer jets
6) Half leather and cloth 10 way sport seats
7) 205/60R 15 on unique to Ti Sport 10 spoke rims
8) Sunroof

There are no discrepancies between my car and what I was told was gonna be added...

I know it's not an active because I don't have cruise control, full leather interior or the Unique Ti Active rims.

I know it's not a base because I have all the stuff that the Sport has and base models don't come with fog lights...

My bad. I just checked.Sport package for 95 indeed did not have m-technik. Only Club Sport did. 96+ all Sports have m-technik body panels.
