Wheels

Finally got my new wheels delivered on Friday. This brings me to my question: What's the widest tire I can put on the 17x7 rim without losing handling?

Thanks

Oh, i have same question too

I'm going to buy 17x7 wheels too and have following questions?

1) Its offset is 48, will it fit E46 328CI?

2) Does this wheel fit 235/40R17?

3) Does 235/40 fit front and rear fender of E46??

Thank you very much

Thanks, I was "fishing" non-stop for 3 weeks on ebay, and landed them. Got them really cheap but got raped with shipping as expected.

I also got blisterin sport shocks and Bav Auto Sport springs. They will probably go on before the wheels though, as soon as the weather warms up a bit.

Congrats! lookin good. I also think you can go safely with a 235 width. I don't think you would want anything more than that.

235 might be a tad big for your car, 225 is ideal for E36's, good weight/size.

BTW, where did you get those wheels? I've seen them before but I cant pinpoint where.

235/40/17 is too big for a 7 inch wheel; it's not within the manufacturer's spec for that size.

235/40/17 is designed for an 8 inch wheel MINIMUM, and 8.5 is considered ideal.

225/45/17 is the biggest I would go with a 7 inch wheel, and possibly a 215/45/17 is a better size.

BTW, 235/40/17 is the PERFECT size for an E36; I'm not sure where you heard that was too big. It's the stock size for the M3 LTW.

I did a bit of research and they seem to be EPIC Arnage 17x7 manufactured by American Racing in USA. They are a bit heavy but the price was right.

Thank you to all of your who responded. 225x45x17 it is then.

Ask someone in Tirerack.com

They said 225/45R17 is the widest for 17x7. BTW, is there any 225/40R17 tire?

What is the widest rubber that would fit on a 16" rim (7.5) and on an e30? I know 225 will for sure but if bigger is possible...

I'll most likely get one of those, if possible the latter one..

225/50R16 92V

Go to tirerack.com choose a wheel, and click on "specs". It gives max rim width for every tire size.

I'm looking for a set of rims myself. Hope I can find a good deal like you did!
