Turbocharging was banned in F1 in 1995.

From 1982 - 1987 the Brabham race team used a BMW designed 1280+ hp (as high as the dyno would display - some estimate it was more like 1400hp) turbo engine from a 1.5L M10 block. (that's the same block in the old E30 318i by the way)
