Looking for input about some possible new summer tires

Hi there, new to MaxBimmer. Was referred here by another bimmer owner who said there was a pretty good knowledge base here.

I own a black 01 530i 5spd with rear tires: 275/35-18 and fronts - 245/40-18.

The rears need replacing, the fronts are still pretty decent.

I found the Falken FK-452 Tires at pretty good price. They have been well reviewed and seem like a pretty good tire. For the most part I just drive around the city and whatnot, I only take the car to the track a couple of times in the summer so I don't need top of the line. And at a price of $229.00, well that can't be beat.

What do you guys think? Anyone have these tires? How are they? Any other recommendations?

falkens are ok everyday use tire.. i found they wear a little quickly than other brands.... i dont do any track on my 5... for my vehicle that i used to track and drove aggressivly i used bridgstone s03 (disconitnued) and after that i used michelin pilot sport ps2s.

I would recommend those (ps2s) if you do track but they are expensive.

I have the fk452's and like them. They do wear somewhat quickly, but not that bad. My dunlops wore much more quickly.

They have nice grip, and nice smooth transition when they start to slip.

I'd recommend them, and plan to get another set when these wear out.

i've heard good things and the Khomo MX from M5 owners, i will most likely give them a try when my conti's are gone

Thanks for the input guys, I think I'm going to take chromius' word and go for them. Even if they wear twice as fast as the michelin pilot sport ps2s they're still half the price .

I'll post what I think of them after I have them on for a bit.

By the way anyone know a good place to get the tires installed on the rims? The owner of the shop I service my car at thought I might get a cheaper deal somewhere else as his guys are just mechanics.

Terrible tires by modern standards. They were a good choice...in 2002. Very bad in the wet, somewhat vague response, fast wear, and so on. If you want something in that category, look at the Yokohama AD07, Bridgestone RE-01R, Dunlop Z1, or the budget choices, Falken RT-615 or Hankook R-S2. All of these are MUCH better than the MX.

Back to the original topic, the FK452 is a great sports/luxury tire.
