Mine started life as an Auto ETA car, the started was different for sure and wouldnt bolt on, But i think the Autos have diff starter then the Manuals...
Besides the Auto Flywheel is diff obv from the 5spd so the teeth probably differnt distance etc... to be safe i would go with the 5spd starter... on VWs the Auto starter is much diff then the Manual and on almost all call I seen/ worked on they were diff

Starters are the same on E,I,O,U. Engines. Auto and Manual SAME STARTER!

It wouldnt bolt up because u forgot to push out the dow pins.

okz, well mine arent the same at all, from my Auto E to my Manual I... well its from an 86 E Auto and the other is an 87 Manual I...

Actually yes i am, for a turbo application with ms etc...
It will be simple tho, b25 head on b27 bottem... low comp, run 15psi etc... have fun
