Im new and need help....

Hey everybody, i'm not a e30 owner, but i am considering getting one.....

I was out today and looked at a e30 that had a custom turbo. But anyway, when we had the car running i though i smelled oil (threw the exhaust) and i also noticed oil on the rear axle..... i never had the chance to drive her because its still winter here.... anyway i was wondering if someone could help me out. I did read up on the sticky buying a "e30" and i just want some input, i also have pictures that ill post later.....

thank you!

IMO if u dont know someone or are incapable to do most of your repairs, do not get an e30...especially with a turbo. This is from my experience, others may say otherwise.Luckily i have someone to help me out whenever my car craped out on me.

p.s-and when u think ur done fixing ur e30, something else will crap out...never ending story......saying so, i may need a new tranny for my 325i! PM if anyone has one lying around with price.

spend the $ and take it for a test drive to a shop. get it looked at and either be happy you didnt buy a lemon or be happy you found an easily fixable turbo 318.
Oh, and if you do buy it, budget for some tools and a manual.

I'd say that is good advice, especially when the car has been modified to fit a custom turbo. You will pay out the nose for repairs if you can't do them yourself. However, if you can, or are willing to learn, a m10 turbo in good repair will be an awesome little car.

Just thinking out loud, there used to be a guy on e30tech.com from I think Lewisporte Nfld. that had an 84 318i that was turbo'd. This wouldn't be the same car, would it? I think his user name was Mitch or Mitchy or something along those lines....If it is the same guy, there is tons of info about the work he has done to it on there.
