Screeching/Howling sound.....

For the past couple of days my car has been making a loud screetch type sound when I give it gas. The problem only lasts untill the engine is warm, then it goes away. The sound gets louder as the rpms go up, and continues to be less noticebale as the car warms up. It almost sound like a metal on metal type sound. On idle the car sounds fine. My car is a 1998 318is (m44), Any idea what it could possibly be? The link is a quick vid I recorded of the sound

Check your fan clutch and also all your pulleys on the engine...sounds like a bearing may be gone in one of them...use either a mechanics stethoscope or a long screwdriver and put it on the area close to a pulley...not on it cuz its spinning...and put your ear on the end of the screwdriver if thats what your using and see if there is one that is louder than others while you rev it up

Would a bearing only make a sound when the engine is cold?

98 M44's do not have a fan clutch, their all electric fans only.
I'm thinking it's just your belts slipping on start up, to test this, next startup when it's making this noise get some belt dressing and spray the belt and see if it goes away. If so a new belt is all you need and possibly a a belt tensioner.

If no difference +1 on archrival"s advice for finding a worn bearing.
