U sure that was oil. Looks to me that they got a rev limiter on and just run it rich! So when the limiter hits you get all that unburned fuel.
To be honest with you.. the car was a little far away to see it correctly... but usually a rev limiter and unburnt fuel = a flame... also raw fuel is black smoke, that looked like gray smoke which is oil.
