Clutch replacement e39

How long should a clutch last for an average driver? How do you know when it's time to replace it?

My protege has the original clutch, 330k.

It can last a long time, depends on driving habbits, and how you use the clutch.

It all depends.

My 97 540i/6 has over 180,000km and clutch is still good.

When the clutch goes you will notice that the car is hard to shift into gear.
