E46 323ci - common problems, what to look for?

Going to check out a 323ic.

I am going to get it on a hoist and check it out as best as i can. Maybe take it to bimmersport if i have any doubts.

What do you guys suggest I pay special attention to? esp on a higher mileage one.

What are the common problem areas?

rear subframe... make sure its still intact. Most early e46's have this problem.

Subframe, front end stuff (ball joints and bushings), Vanos issues, electrical gremlins. Overall they're not bad at all, seem to have less weakpoints than late-model E36 6-cylinders.

You're so buying it, and it's so my fault.

-sunroof slider
-check the a/c (see if the compressor is still in good shape) they cost a arm and a leg to repair..to check this bring it to a shop that also deals with A/C
check PSI

-check if keys still work they cost 250 a piece

-check for rust

Thanks for the comments, I'm not buying it im going to *see* it,.

How does checking the psi of the r134a tell you if the compressor is good? That just tells you how much r143a is in the system.
