Well, all I can say is other than all of you guys having sticking injectors, that is pretty crazy!

WRT to the testing, according to that page, they have begun testing with the new standards for 08 model years, and all of the ratings they show for older cars are "corrected". For instance, for the 540, it used to be 18/24 and now it's 14/22. *shrugs* I would have never thought that an EPA rating could ever be worse than a BMW enthusiasts' result - simply due to how hard we drive our cars (at least sometimes), live and learn.

Don't get me wrong, if I push the accelerator pedal anywhere past half, all my great millage goes straight out the window

My numbers are for highway trips, and my daily commute to work, for which I don't tend to drive very hard.

I _think_ the OBC in the e39 shows *imperial* MPG not US, too, which explains a few things. But I can attest, when I drove the poop out of my e39 I'd get around 12L/100 and I'd get around 8.5 on the highway with various slow-ups.

I know this is an older thread, but I was out taking some pics, and I found a perfect road to do an "ideal" test of the 540's fuel consumption, so here's a quick video
Coles:
90km/h with Cruise control on, 6th gear, perfectly flat road, 21 degrees C.
Reset the OBC when I started (as shown)

And yes that reads 44MPG (imperial) or 6.4L/100km

That's hybrid territory baby. V8 FTW!
