hi there, was wondering a)how difficult is it to swap from auto to manual and b)how much would the cost be? i have an 84 318i.c) what all do i need?

Man, I just scrapped an 84 318i manual, would have let the 5 spd stuff go for cheap. Basically you need: transmission, driveshaft, pedals, clutch stuff, flywheel, shifter assembly, slave & master cylinder with associated plumbing. Not sure if the brake master on the auto has a spot for the line running to the clutch master, so you may or may not need a new brake master cylinder as well. Best bet is to find someone selling a 318i manual for cheap, and then take what you need. Otherwise its probably gonna cost you quite a bit. BUT, it will be worth it, esp. in for the m10

Dont even bother...You can pick up a full 325i for a few hundred $$$, and you have all the parts for an M20 5spd swap...Do everything at onece, you will love the results!
