$50 bucks and a whole day's worth of watching paint dry, I end up with this.
I got colour matched paint from Cawthra automotive. BS. It wasn't colour matched at all! I'm hoping that the colour will match a little better as it dries and with some more time. But then again, for $50 total for materials, there is really nothing to complain about, and with such a big improvement in looks, the pics speak for themselves.
Another thing for those thinking about painting themselves, the rocker panels will be fuzzy because of the texture. It won't match with the rest of the car no matter how colour matched your paint is.
Anyways, if you want to do this, here are the steps I took.
1. Clean off area and scoff with a scotchbrite pad or very high grit sandpaper. Then clean again with degreaser, then again with water, then again with dry cloth.
2. Mask off the area you don't want paint on...best to use the entire width of the newspaper if your using newspaper.
3. Adhesion promotor. Do two coats, which must be done within 10 minutes of the first coat. For the front bumper, I did 3 coats.
4. Flexible primer. 2 coats. First coat within 10 minutes of last adhesion promotor coat. I again, did 3 coats on the front bumper.
5. Colour Coat. One hour after last primer coat. Two to 3 coats.
6. Clearcoat. Don't listen to anyone who says the colour stage has clear in it- it's barely shiny. Do clearcoat one hour after last colour coat. I did two coats everywhere, and finished the can on the front bumper at 4 coats.
