I already edited the poll to fit others, unfortunately we can't fit any more manufacturers that that.... there's simply too many. I think he's referring to home stereo? ALPINE doesn't make any of that. I deleted Technics 'cause they're owned by Panasonic.

Depends in which area you are talking about.

Home theatre, stereo audio, car audio, you could even make a case for computer audio nowadays......

Aiwa??? if your talkin' Home Theatre, then i can't remember Aiwa coming out with some decent equipment recently..

anyhow, i use Harmon/Kardon myself. Denon, Yamaha, their all good. Like everything, they all have pro's and cons....

Yamaha, and Denon are the only two there that I would consider
from that list, and it reflects that those two manufacture HT Integrated units that are the most expensive.
From my auditions from these units, I mostly found that Yamaha amps tend to sound 'brighter', which on average tends to favour hard music such as rock and dance, and HT.
Denon tends to be a softer sounding amps, which tends to favor 'softer' sounding music, which tends to be more 'accurate to the natural sounds that we hear. All depends on how you like your music and your HT to sound.
Having said all that, both these units can be dialed to the softer & harder side by pairing them up with speakers, which also have there own caracteristics. There's no hard fast rule.
Do your best to listen to all the amps that are in your price range.

Both Denon and Yamaha also make lower priced amps, which are comparable to Technics. Stay away from Technics, and the lower priced amps from the other makes. Comparably priced Yamaha's sound much better than say a Technics in the same price range.
(I've owned both, and still have a Yamaha DSP 3090 relegated to backup HT duties).
Difference between the two was glaring!

(Can you tell HT is another one of my hobbies?)

HEEHEE got a good budget??? KRELL HOME THEATER STANDARD
check it out HQ sound, upgradeable simple plug and play type components ie now at 6.1 can remove that unit and get a 7.1 for example. Just like a PC if you upgrade.

Otherwise sound Harmon Kardon rocks DC powered exceptionally clean, however not as reliable as the Denon or Yamaha units, this is where Marantz is better than HK but sounds very similar, ck the HK at Number 1 sound, they are hooked up to Axiom speakers these will blow you away once you find out how much they are ask for George.

Feature wise I like Denon, then Yamaha. I have both DEnon 3300 and Yahmaha RX-V1. I am quite satisfied with these amps, I wish I had the new Denon 5800 droool.

Best is what you like in features and most important sound. And if it dictates Budget.

HK and Marantz is direct, Yamaha is bright, Denon is warm in sound. And Krell well its just well...amazing.

Good luck
