Hub bearings 98 528 i

How can i tell if they are bad and what side

Noise.... Our cars are very tough to figure out which one though, because they are so quiet. Bad bearings are sometimes confused with tire noise. Try rotating the tires to see if the noise changes, which would indicate the tires as being the source.

Testing the bearings by jacking up a wheel and trying to test for play will only be effective if the bearing is severely worn. A noisy bearing may not have any noticable looseness, and may be quiet if there is no load on it.
