Pictures of Restoration
Have decided the restoration of my 1972 1602 is long overdue. Here are the first pictures of the car being disassembled prior to the motor being pulled and then off for rust removal and paint.

Here's a shot of the driver's side window showing the spot where the window seal leaked and the rusty result. If any of you have bubbled paint anywhere around the windows, this is what you're in for.

The rear window seal also leaked and resulted in more rust.

You should acid dip the entire chassis and then seam weld the car !
John Dimoff @ raven performance knows a shop that does this.. the car will be better than new !
Good luck

That's really nice.
I had a 72 2002 in the Caribbean, brought over from Canada. This car was done up all rally style and had lots of performance work on it. Aluminum flywheel, twin Weber 48 side draft carbs, headers, racing pipes, deep dish wheels, full black leather interior (custom covered) all stainless steel braided hoses with clamp covers spray painted to match the metalic Candy Apple Red the car was painted in.
I came over to Canada and left the damn car there. I loved this car so much and completely regret not bringing it here.
This is the car which caused me to become addicted to BMW's
Lets see it when completed.

Unfortunately not. That was 13 years ago so no digital pics. I had an album I brought here with all my cars and racing pics. One morning I drove off rushing the wife to work with the leather covered album on top of my car, never to be found again.
When I asked around, some ppl said they saw it on the pavement but someone probably stole it just for the expensive album. I felt like half of my life was gone.
In the digital age it also sucks. I installed two new hard drives in my PC 9 months ago. The 200 gig was a backup with nearly 100 gigs of vids and pics. My PC suffered a power glitch from the power supply, both drives wnet down.
I sent them in for data recovery and awaiting a reply. I may have to pay 1.5K to 3K to recover the data.

It was rumored that BMW was going to produce the BMW 2002 in the year 2002.
I wish they did. The return of the VW Beatle and the Austin Mini was quite refreshing.

48 Webers...very nice. I feel your pain leaving the car behind, must have been a tough decision. It's killing me to go through all this but what needs to be done, needs to be done. If you know what I mean.
I plan to completely disassemble the engine, maybe go with 1800ti pistons which have the same 84mm bore as my stock ones but have 9.5:1 compression. 130 Euros is the main deterent. Hone the bore, renew timing gears, oil pump and bottom end, and paint the crank case. Cylinder head is almost restored with 292 cam.
Should be pretty dam nice when it's done.
