I might just be able to make it. yay!
quick question for all you veterens of autocrossing. Just wondering if my car will be in group "C" or "D"
I read the rules like this:
Modified means any vehicle having one or more of the following items:
a) performance enhancing chip
b) R-compound tires
c) full or half cage
d) racing brakes
e) lowered suspension (any two of: springs, shocks, sway bars)
All I have in that group is a Dinan chip...does that mean that I am going to be in class D, where I will get my ass kicked. For the event I could put in my stock chip I suppose, will that would drop me to group C?
Randy, Jay? or anyone else out there that can shed some light for me?
I mean I will just be there to have some fun, but would still be nice to be a little competitive

Yep. I'd suggest swapping chips. BTW, don't you have aftermarket shocks? That'll throw you into the fast class with the M3 springs anyways. The rules list was supposed to be changed into a points system though, not sure if that's going to be implemented for this first session or not.
I'll be there, with the winter tires on and stock height coilovers.

You should come Vlad, you'd honestly have a great time (caution: extremely addictive!)... it's about time you learned how to harness all that power, can't always beat people in a straight line.

The rules have completely changed this year. I'll post details this week when we iron out the small things... but in the meantime to get an idea, just check this post as a points example.

I'd like to come check this series out. Is there parking for non-competitors?
I used to compete (Ha! If you can call what I did competing!) in the Push-It-To-The-Limit series (Mazda Sportscars Owner Club) back around '96-'97.. Geez.. that was a long time ago. I'd like to get back into it..
Anyone else going to watch?
Joe

There's plenty of spectator parking... shotgun rides too (if you ask the right people). I used to race in that series also back then.... in the Go-Train parking lot off Dixie & Dundas right? My E30 used to be grey back then with 16" wheels and NOS (lol). Do you remember that chick in the gold '86 vette always beating everyone?? See you on Sunday!

I ran a few races when they were in Oakville at the college and a couple at the GO Train station.
NOS, eh?
I ran a red and really loud 2nd Gen RX7. Headers, pre-silencer (no cats) and basically straight-through mufflers. Full Racing Beat suspension and whole deal. It made a hell of a racket. Rattled my teeth out. And didn't make me any faster. Ahhh... the good old days.
I got a lot of the Honda guys involved (I had a GS-R and one of the first members of some Honda club). I also introduced Derek (from JRP in Mississauga.. are they still around?) to the Mazda Club and the series. He became one of the series sponsors.
One of the last races I ran was when some moron in an Integra wiped out and hit a pole. I was on track at the time as well. They were doing the staggered starts that year. Kind of freaked me out. Part way through that summer I moved to Ottawa and haven't done Auto-X since. I wasn't at all competive; but, I had a blast!
What are you driving? I'd like to meet up with you at the event..
Joe

Joe, that moron that jumped the silver Integra over a curb ($7000 damage) was my good friend's (Dave) best friend (at the time). Dave let his friend try one run in his integra, and that's what happened. It didn't freak me out, but that's when I started to go less aswell (timing-wise). I used to participate with the corvette club too (Burlington GoTrain parking lot) back then... but they favour HP with their "christmas tree" drag-style starts.
BMWCC-wise, I help run the event (timer) so you'll see me at the start gate with a clip board. I might be driving a modded white S2000 if the weather is good.

Hey Randy,
Well then.. no offence to the guy who lent his car to the moron..
I thought he clipped a pole and then went into the curb.. I didn't actually see it happen, as I said, I was the other car on the course at that time. I heard the crash and the spotters started frantically waving red flags trying to get me to stop. I had no idea what was going on.. That's what freaked me out. I still had the adrenline shakes when I lined up for my re-run.
I think there was another near-miss that day (or it may have been the next event) when a car got hopelessly lost on the course, gave up on trying to find their way back onto the course and cut across the center to get back to the timing gate and into the path of the second car on course. Once again, the marshalls were frantically trying to get the attention of both drivers.
Was it the Porsche Club or the BMW Club that used to run the events off Airport Road?
See you on Sunday..
Joe
