My dad has a 740i from the year 2000. It's a very nice car, he hasn't had any problems with it and he has around 70,000 miles.
The only concern he has with his is the width of the tires, they seem to cause a driving problem at higher speeds. It seems that the car will 'track' the ruts of the freeway and will pull you from side to side. It's not a violent thing, but it's uncomfortable to deal with for long trips.
The car overall has plenty of power, great to drive in city and moderate drives.

look for the usual stuff on a 7 series: ELECTRICAL !!
make sure everything works fine , test it , and then test it again.
oh and don't pay too much, the residual values on old 7s are usually about 3 series money

I'll sell you my 7er for $42K. Black on black, shadowline, sport pkg, 18" M-Parallels, All options less NAVI, BMW Certified Series w/full warranty, all cup holders and electronics are MINT, <68,000km on it. Dealer maintained front to back.
If you want, you can get an E38 for around $10K-$15K if you shop around enough. It will be older, with higher mileage - but if you find one with full service records chances are it will be in very good shape.

Hi there...
Someone asked for pics too (I think it was you ///Mac).
I'm right around Hwy 7 & McCowan (Right next to Markville Mall).
If you're truly interested, I'd love to show you the car. My office is also around Highway-7/Langstaff if that is close(r).
Send me a PM, and I'll reply back with contact info.

I strongly suggest you get a 7 series with the Certified Series Warranty. Parts on the 7 Series are not cheap. If the car has over 100k make sure you have all the records of what has been done. I had to replace my temperature sensor $800 then the rad $400 on my 7 series before it got to 110k. I was lucky that it was covered under the Certified series.
Buy Badride's car it is worth the money plus he has the Certified Series Warranty.
Regards
Max
