Body kits=ABS Vs. Fiberglass

I'm curious as to what other peoples opinions are about body kits made out of ABS plastics Vs. Fiberglass.

It seems to me that the ABS ones may be a bit more forgiving when it comes to damage.....I just picture a FG front bumper cover cracking very easy

ABS is stronger against impacts and rocks, but lacks the flexibility that fiberglass has. Fiberglass can be repaired, where as ABS, I think, is impossible to repair. The upside with ABS is that you wont need to repaint your bumper every year because of rock chips and indentations. The biggest upside of an ABS kit however is fitment. It fits, period. Fiberglass kits will almost always need some modification to make them fit, and even so, it's usually only 99% perfect in the end.

You just have to be more careful when driving if you have a fiberglass kit up front. djcontra summed it up pretty good. I don't mind fiberglass, as long as it's installed and painted properly, it can last as long as ABS.

Ya ABS is a lot nicer when compared to FG, but just look at the price, so your basically paying for the strength!
However, just aquestion, what about this "BLUE" FG i hear about, like its coated better or something i dunno, but i'm assuming the BIG companies use this type (reiger, etc.) any info on this?!

fg. is decent..its repairable abs isnt as frendly. i think its repairable to a point like it can be fixed if its not too bad. i would go with abs tho if ur car is lowered. cause the chance of u smacking a pot hole or something are much grater. so it wont break ever week.

i dont know about cracked bumpers, but ive seen massive scratches that are deep in to the plastic be repaired by melting new plastic into the cuts then sanding/repainting.....

I wish somebody made poly-urethane kits for our cars. That stuff is next to impossible to crack!

I agree with that, for the last year or so a company has been making blue kits, claiming to be much better, flexible etc...That company is know for very BAD quality and fit...Only differece is the blue gel coat they use when making the part...you can make it any colour you want, even to match the car without being painted! Maybe thats the way to solve the chips problem forever; it will be a bit more expensive but you get a piece thats already the colour of your car!

I have no problem with fiberglass. My front skirt is fiberglass and no problem what so ever. Just as long as you car is not too low to the ground and you don't have chopped springs then I don't see any reason not to use fiber glass. Sure it chips but I got good connections at bodyshops so painting is not an issue

Not true.
Being ABS doesnt mean it will fit with no problems.
Fitment only depends on how peace was manufactured.

The only reason why ABS stuff fits good is cause it is harder to make than fiberglass kits and only companies with some bucks make kits out of ABS. So they will spent some time on making a perfect mold.

Most fiberglass kits are knockoffs, and are done at home, by people that got no name to back up and make those kits not exactly perfect.

So my point is, ABS doesnt mean GOOD fitment. Fiberglass can fit as good as ABS, it only depends on the manufacturer
