wedding gifts
haven't been to a wedding for awhile now, what's the norm for gift giving,
what are some gifts you guys have given, anything like cappuccino makers, oven toasters, gift certificates for like sears applicances or whatever, since i have no clue.
and if you were to give cash instead, do you give like a $100.00 or $200.00 for the both of them... or more...?
just like some opinions and ideas, thanks

Cash is more useful ... Amount depends on relationship ... I give 100 minimum for ppl i dont really know too well... For general friends and family 200... For close family and friends 300-500

Sounds about right. Maybe >$500 if it's your brother or sister, depending.

Depends, when we go it is usually a family member so automatically we assume the plate amount of $1XX each plus extra since they are fam. So usually for my wife and I we go $300-$500 as mentioned above.
A stranger or friend we would at least cover what we assumed the plate was so $2XX plus a few dollars on top.
If the wedding is at a nice hall you can assume easily the plater per person is in excess of $100+.
Funny story!
When I got married I invited a friend of the family who sold us insurance, she brought her friend as a guest too, both were asian. Well when the next day we were opening our gifts I discover a small red paper bag that had gold designs on the out side with 20 dollar bills in it, clearly from my two asian guests. A little time goes by and I discover a seond bag then 3 and 4 and 5! All had about $100 or so in them. When I asked her what the story was on that she said they had never been to an Itaian wedding and after seeing the hall and 6 course meal plus anti pasta bar etc they felt one bag wasnt enough and between meals one of them ran to the store and used the atm and that went on through the whole meal. Apparently they never expected more and more food. They obviously enjoyed themselves and were nice enough to show it

You should cover your plate (and guests) plus cash on top...
You have to assume they are paying AT LEAST $100 per plate.

Cost of a plate these days (with open bar) is about $120 in most places. You should cover plate and give a bit more I would say. If they have a registry open with the bay or somewhere then you can do that as well but make sure the gift equals out more then $100 if not (like a toaster) then get something else on the list.

I work as an event/meeting specialsit at the place where we do some weddings. If you cover the plate cost, I think the gift is okay. It honestly depends on the situation. There are people out there that spend serious cash for 100 people wedding where they could have had 200 people for the same amount they spent. You can easly tell if they cheaped out on wedding if there is no open bar, as well as if they got one coarse meal.

Even if there is a open bar, I am not big fan of it. I import homemade booze from Europe. I am not too crazy on getting drunk from chemicals.

We recently rented from freemans for my friends wedding, around 200$. We had some fitment issues after they were "altered" but overall it was fine.
