VW used car markup
Hey guys im going in to an independant vw dealer saturday to negotiate a car its a 2010 fully loaded gti, the black book on it is between 20-22k and theyre asking 28,900.
What do you guys think? Anyone have any experience with VW's markup? I lnow generally bmw u can get 10% off on used certified series; not sure about these guys...
Thanks,
Michel

Hmm it should be the same thing... My friend picked up a certified 2006 VW TDI from Pickering VW, and they were asking 18 or 19K. He was able to nock off 1.5 or 2k of the asking price. I don't recall the exact number, but as you pointed out, it's around 10%.

I priced out a 2012 with the same options; it comes out to about $43k out the door, minus financing (at 3.9% for 4yrs).
This is a 5dr 2010 with 18k kms, certified series (+2yrs/40k kms) warranty, and they have 1.9% financing for 4yrs.
I think if I can get it for 26-26.5k before taxes/fees I'll go for it (basically ~30k out the door)..

The 10% off sounds fair from other people's experience.
On a side note....I came across this one this morning. For those who are still diggin MK2's, this one is an unmolested, original owner beauty. Only $5,800 USD!

It's pretty normal to see used GTI's going for more then new... been like that for a long time.

You already have a price that you are willing to pay - 26 to 26.5k
so I would go $25k and negotiate up to your price...that's what I did
when I bought my last car...also, dont pay any adminstration fee,
which is around $500ish...

The GTI has been like that ever since. Even the MK2 was overpriced when it came out.

Yea it is made/assembled in germany, and I got the car for about 25.3k so if anyones wondering how much you can save on a used VW, its a little above 10%..
I was looking at how much the PO paid, $42k before tax! :S

Congrats.. From $28.5 to $25.3, good negotiation...better than trying to pay $26ish....
