What are angel eyes?

So one of my headlight burnt out and Iv seen a couple bimmers with angel eyes. Just wondering, If i plan to install angel eyes onto my bimmer, do they replace my current hid or would I still need to replace my burnt out HID?

I'm not sure as to the origin of the term "angel eyes", but that is not BMW's name for them.

The HID bulb is completely separate from the angel eye rings in a stock E39 headlight housing, so you would still require a new HID bulb to replace a burnt out light.

i would also suggest replacing the hid bulbs in pairs if you want them to appear as the same colour. the colour changes over time so older bulb may be more yellow.
