2001 convertible top wont close or open
So this morning I went to the garage to close the top on my car cause it was to cold to drive to work. i placed the key in the door lock and turned to the lock position. Hatch opened and the top started to raise. Half way through my hand slipped and the closing operation stopped. turned the key to the lock position again to continue the closing process but it wouldnt continue. Tried to reverse the process to open the top but it wouldnt move.
I didnt hear any clicks or knocks to indicate something went wrong.
turned on the vehicle and tried using the interior buttons and nothing again.
If this has happened to you, let me know what the fix could be and how much.
I had to take my parents vehicle since it wouldnt be safe to drive.
HELP HELP

Get in the car, start it, foot on the brake, lower the top and raise it again.

The whole auto-close process ****s up sometimes, just try to close it with the button in the car. There's also a point in the convertible top operation where its not closed enough for the system to try to open it, and not open enough for the system to try to close it. You can gently and slowly return the top to either opened or closed, and then try it again.

Sorry to bother again.
since we are on the subject, is there anyway i can program my key fob to open close the top. at the moment the only way i can do it is to either press the buttons in the car or place the key in the door.

I believe it can be reprogrammed on a e46, but i think only with a GT1. Give RMP a call and ask.

No luck.
i tried everything. Put my foot on the brakes and tried lowering it but wouldn't budge.
Manually closed the roof and tried opening it with the button in the cabin.
Manually opened the roof and tried opening it with the button in the cabin, the roof started to come up but it stopped before the rear window was clear of the compartment hatch.
i have no choice but to take it to the dealership or a convertible specialist.

Try
http://www.encoautotrim.com/
I found this place while googling for a place to replace the rear plastic window of my top and I spoke to Peter, give him a call.
