Springtime Restoration
I figured I should start my own thread instead of hijacking Nerk's for the rest of the summer.
Lots of stuff to take care of this year. I want to get most of it done by the end of June so I can just drive and enjoy for the rest of the summer.
1. DONE. New intake gaskets, cleaned injectors (got rid of loud ticking noise, now I just have the regular valve train noise of the M20), PCV tube o-rings, small heater hose from throttle body to block (I had changed all others previously).
2. DONE. Install reman'd injectors since originals are leaking (gas smell in oil and hard start when warm).
3. DONE. New Bosch WR8LC+ spark plugs
4. DONE. Change the gas contaminated oil and filter
5. DONE. Get clean doors and new fenders (still need pass fender)
5a. To do. Get a paint job (still undecided if it will be this year or next)
6. To do. Weld seam in exhaust just before cat. Ghetto rigged with flexible tailpipe repair kit and 2 clamps from Partsource for now.
7. To do. New cat back or just new muffler.
8. To do. Rustproof the undercarriage if I don't pick up another DD before winter.
9. HALF DONE. Replace emergency brake cables, pads, spring kit.
10. DONE. Replace windshield.
11. To do. Install E30 drop hats.
12. To do. Replace all steel fuel lines.
13. To do. Replace front/rear anti-sway bar bushings and end links.
14. DONE. Replace ASA centre caps with BMW 57mm centre caps. Yeah, I know they are not genuine BMW rims but the caps look so much better.

12. DONE. Replace all steel fuel lines.
Holy crap that was a lot of work. 10 hours worth. Picked up a crappy (not Canadian Tire) tube bender that kinked every 90 degree bend. Had to walk over to Partsource to borrow one.
Must finish the other ebrake cable next. Going over to Alex's to get my exhaust welded up tomorrow.

Thanks to Alex at ACP for doing what he could to weld it up. The pipe was so thin I had to fill in the rest with muffler cement.
7. To do. New cat back or just new muffler.
Scheduled for new (used) exhaust next week with Remus muffler. Also C/O Alex at ACP. Can't wait.

9. DONE. Replace emergency brake cables, pads, spring kit.
Fully functional emergency brakes with no sticking. Feels good.

Full new (used) exhaust with Remus cat-back. Looks and sounds great. Thanks Alex. Will post pics later.

I wish my front endlinks looked as good as the ones you removed... mine have no rubber left in the lower bushing.

See, you're thinking ahead get a truck and turn your E30 into a track car... I'm doing the opposite... building a track car... then finding a truck

Yeah, I'm waffling over keeping the E30 or selling it. Really hard finding time to work on it and I need the room in the garage. You know, kids and their crap. We'll see. The wife actually wants me to keep it which is a surprise.

Not sure. Paid 2K for it and got 1400 in rims and tires plus everything in this thread plus more.

UPDATE - fall restoration
Well I started working on it again. Cleaning up the front end. Sanding down the bits of surface rust behind the front grills/bumper/fenders. My goal is to get the fenders back on and be able to actually drive it around this fall before putting it away for another winter.
Will post some pics tonight.
