Reliability Q's

Hows it going RMP...

I have some friends with E46 and they go to you guys and are super happy with service and advice... So since i dont own a BMW yet, Iam looking for some advice here on the forum.

My Friend asked about the 2007 335i as a possible upgrade to his existing 05 330, he told me that you guys said (when he had visited RMP for a routine service) the 05-06 330's are great reliable engines that are proven but the N54 hmmmmm NOT SO MUCH!!! (Great Engine but not necessarily proven) Obviously its plagued with the HPFP issues that have been well documented, really only in the Forum world, not so much in the Car Magazines or Media.

So if Im looking to buy a non CPO'd 07 335i sedan sport (clean with approx 65-80km) I just want an amazing 300hp/tq with amazing handling, brakes, overall looks and most important 4 doors (family man) Its a dream, but is the N54, really, not proven for reliability, and would one have to accept all the issues that come with the 335i ownership???

I just want to Know if we, Can Have our Cake (335i) and Eat it Too (sound reliability)

Thanks for your time,
Cheers

The 335 is a great overall car, but you must maintain it.

The cars with the fuel pump issues are mostly modified ones, and most of 07 cars have been repaired by now.

So before picking up a 07 model be sure to check out the service history, and get a good PPi.

Rocco, for reliability and ease of maintenance, would you reocmmend a E46 M3 over a E90/E92 335?

Thanks again!

The chasis of the E90 is better, and the engine of the e46 is better!

So a E90 with a E46 M3 engine would be Ideal! LOL

But honestly the E46 is a good car, Long term the E46 engine will be better.

I am not a big fan of the N54 engine just yet....

Thanks Rocco for your feedback,
So the 2006 330i E90...good example... New Chasis (e90) & engine (e46)
I think i will go that route and be very happy!

Quick Question if I may,

In your opinion how bad is the HPFP issue really, The Forums produce mostly all stories gone bad (not many people go onto forums to share good news)which provides the perception that its happening to all or most owners 335i,

BUT people come into the shop for reg visits and share GOOD and Bad stories (HPFP) So with that said are the high % failures stories we read on the forum a close representation of the Everyday joe and there shop visit stories???

Cheers and thanks for your time

None of the E9x came with M54s just so you know.

2006 E90 330i has N52B30, NOT M54B30
