I head they had to evacuate something local- a town perhaps. But it look's like there isn't anything near by.
Magnus are you far from it?

^ Does that bother you as well. There have been 5 different earth quakes in the world these past two month. Let alone the tsunamis that follow. God damn 2012 is nearing.

The "soil" isn't active,, you can sleep safe. This only happens where two tectonic plates move past each other. Most of it is located under water, for example the mid oceanic ridge located in the middle of Atlantic,, Iceland is located right along the ridge.

You cant be "safe" in a active volcano area.Even with modern sensors predicting any sort of natural disasters is still relatively guessing.Look at all the earthquakes that happen recently, they were tracked by experts for years and still they have no idea what would happen, same as volcanos, they know its there but have no idea of the dispersion results or secondary eruptions. All Im saying is having a volcano in your backyard is not really a good thing...............

But knowing what kind of lava to expect from the volcano allows you to set parameters to be followed. So, approaching an eruption on Iceland or Hawaii to within a few meters is much safer than doing something like that in the Caribbean.

I am about 45 minutes drive away. Yes they did evacuate but as a precaution as there is a bigger active volcano near by and there were fears of that one going off. On top of that there is a glacier there and there were fears of flooding.
I was there yesterday and got some pics but i will post them later in the week as i am about to fly abroad(Portugal-Spain-Greece-Italy bussiness trip for the next few weeks).
And approaching this volcano is relatively safe yes at the moment but no one can predict its reactions for sure as it had been dormant for so long.
