Loophole to avoid paying PVT ($60 Toronto plate sticker tax)
Figured it out today before I went to get a sticker. Not sure if it's been shared here before.
Read #11 here: http://www.toronto.ca/finance/pdf/PVT_Q&A.pdf
I went into the office and requested a new set of plates as well as sticker. The woman looked at me strange, and asked if I meant I needed to renew my sticker. I said no, I want new plates too. At this point the supervisor sitting behind her looked up from what she was doing and winked at me. Think she knows the deal.
Anyways, I ended up paying $94 for one year instead of $134 if I kept my old plates. So do what I did, pocket $40, and get brand new plates to boot. Sucks for those with personalized plates (I'll have to pay the PVT for the E30), but for those who aren't attached to their plates, good riddance!

The tax only applies to Toronto residents, which is retarded. I live within 1km of the Durham border and even work over there, so I really wanted a way to avoid the bullshit tax.

Nah, consider us even. The wheels are probably ROH, they made a shitload of 4x100 and 4x108 wheels in Aus back in the day.

Nope. My closest MTO is in Pickering, and that's the one I've paid the $60 tax at multiple times already. Once they see the M postal code it's automatically tacked on.

Did it many times in Oakville and Mississauga and never paid the $60.
All my friends did the same and never paid the $60.
I guess they don't care about it in Oakville or Mississauga
