LET'S TALK, M3 engine swap!!
Hey everyone, so here's the deal, I have a 2004 BMW 325xi, and my budy has a 2003 audi A4 3.0L. We've both been moding are cars but now he is going to be swaping the 3.0L V6 with a 2.7L bi-turbo V6. So here's were I'm at, I can't let his audi get faster then my bimmer, so I've been wanting to do an m3 engine swap, but I want to keep my AWD, now I'm not sure if the m3 motor will be compatible with that tranny? Anyone know?, Thanks.

I believe it should be. The blocks are the same, so the tranny should bolt right up.

The oil pan is not the same, so wont fit with the AWD system...So your best bet would be 330xi and then supercharge it! Not a cheap way tho...lol

Would the bmw AWD system hold up with the extra power?
Or sell the bimmer, get an S4 and beat him in his game

You need boost if you want a chance in hell. I'd probably boost the 2.5L you have just for the sake of cost/reward.
Swapping a M3 motor in your car will likely cost at least 5K in labour plus the cost of labour (assuming its even possible, which i'm not saying it is)

From what I've read, getting the software to function is the biggest hurdle and probably the most expensive part

I support this idea because no matter how much money you pour into the car there is always someone faster

The car only goes as fast as you'll let it go. Even shit cars like Hyundai can go fast.
Last week I seen a guy in a Mazda 3 2.5 I figured... well he has the same SIZE engine as me but with 24 years of 'improvements' he should kick my ass.
He was ahead of me so I let him try to escape and he couldn't. In fact I had to back off.
A few days later I looked up the Mazda 3 to see what the 'stats' are on that thing. 167hp @6000 (my m20 stock 168hp @5800) And I have a few improvements that shouldn't hurt.
Okay... so much for 'new cars are better' I still have more power after 24 years. Next we have weight. Mazda 3... 2969-3108 lb !!! fat as hell. I know I've trimmed about 3-400lbs of niceties from my car so I have that advantage. Too much USELESS garbage in new cars.
Of course you can't compare an e30 to a Mazda 3, that's like comparing nice apples to shitty apples. The e30 was better designed, better made, adjusted for inflation the $30,000 e30 in 87 would be worth $60,606 in 2012.
Okay, okay... I'm slightly off topic.
Advice to the OP: Save your money until he actually accomplishes this idea of his... The big problem I see is you can't swap to a non-stock engine easily in the newer cars. They check these things now when you get emissions.
If you want to play around get an e30.

both are stupid swaps, audi S4s are dirt cheap, so it's better to sell and buy an S4. BMW AWD is pointless to mod, and you'll dump more money than selling and buying an M3.
so to conclude you're both crazy.

Nah, too much dogfight for nothing.
Rule number one,
Never turn non M car into M car. Just buy one.
A sIMILAr stupidity like that guy with 1 series dumping 50k in her. lol All that cash into chick's car when he could have had E92 M3. Much safer investment.

maybe Max sponsors(RMP, Bimmersport and the rest) can answer your question,
if it makes you happy by beating the shxt out of your friend's Audi .. do it...ts your money, (stupid or not).. then again.. another faster car comes along.... now what do you do???

Even M3 E46 AWD from factory would be hit and miss on performance.(lets say if they had one) Also there are too many fast cars already on the road. Even if you line up 2.7Turbo Audi, I don't find it that fast. Most soccer moms on my street ride in one. Maxima 3.5L would smoke it.
