Personally I wouldn't buy anything refurbished from Tiger direct especially a laptop unless it comes with warranty. If you can wait a little longer the back to school deals will be coming out soon and you can pick up a brand new one.

I agree. I would not buy anything new from Tiger Direct especially a refurbished laptop.

Brand new laptops are quite cheap nowadays, so in my opinion you should just go with something new, especially for that price. Now, if you are looking for something way cheaper, try Craigslist.

Futureshop!
I got a $150 off my friends laptop .. we price matched against tigerdirect. You could also try to price match against canadacomputers.com. If you really want something cheap and refurbished then go to factorydirect.ca ... but get a warranty for 30 days at least .. its cheap.

I agree with above, don't buy refurbished. Laptop hardrives have a much shorter halflife than desktop, and it goes down exponentially depending on the use. Same with the CPU - if someone used it in bed all the time, with the cover plugging up the vents, odds are the electronics are on their last legs. The leads for the screen flex, and the hinges get stressed - they will wear out over time.
Get a new one. I'm trying to convince myself I need a new laptop because I want the new macbook pro like there's no tomorrow. It's the best engineered piece of personal computing equipment ever made. Some of the ways may seem small until you live with them.

that would be considered grey market .. they won't do that for you. BUT you can take a drive ti buffalo (dollars good now) and buy it .. if its really worth it.

I sell new, open box and refurb units for a living - Tiger direct get's some of their gear from us too.
As far as refurb goes, IT Xchange as a company has less than a 2.5% return rate due to defect. We do over $6Million a month in sales USD.
I'd say you are pretty safe - Like noted above, get a warranty with it. We sell our own warranty, 1 or 3 years, very reasonably priced (Here's the great part - I DECIDE on my clients eligibility for warranty, not a 3rd party company. If it's a legit claim, it's done - no questions asked - scammers obviously have a harder time)
a 1 year warranty on a notebook between $500 - $1000 is $75, 3 year is $150. That's pretty reasonable.
Deep
EDIT: Oh and don't get a cheap brand like Asus or Acer refurbed - you are asking for trouble. Stick to tier 1 brands refurbed - IBM/Lenovo, HP/CPQ or even Dell are better then the cheap ass brands.
