What would you buy as a reliable family car?
I'm looking for a decent new car that will cost me about $370-390/month. I would like to take a load off my dad's car especially for family trips.
These are my choices, feel free to add some more but please no used cars and I'm looking for a finance rate of max %0.9/5yrs, money loans should be free during these times
1) Honda Civic DX-A (5spd, A/C)
2) Ford Escape XLS (5spd, 4cyl)
3) Hyundai Sonata GL (5spd)
4) Hyundai Elantra (5spd)
Thoughts?
Joe

If you wait till the end of the year, they usually lower the rates for the 09 models.

Agreed but I think they do the Red Tag sale which is basically 0% for 36 months which means a steep monthly payment.
I think the Fusion is a great car but the 2010 models are not at 0% for 60 months.
I'll check out the Kia Rondo for fun but I don't think that I'd want to be in Kia, don't trust 'em much.
I like the Sonata, you get a lot of car for the money but a bad resale.
What about the Civic, no one likes that?

You would be surpised my friend. The Rondo is always refer as superior to the Mazda 5, which you would think is better because it's a mazda...and if you don't want any trouble for the 5 next years, that's the car to get. Their warranty is hard to beat! 5/5/5
But I'm not really objective, we have one at home.

Not sure I would go with a 4cyl escape. Try them all and see which one you like best. Personnaly I'd get the sonata.

I've rented Sonatas quite a few times last year and I was quite impress with the quality/price ratio.
Black on black with some nice wheels...
-----------------------------------------
I changed my mind...
Go try a Kia Rondo. Right in your price range, a LOT of interior space, good gas milage, the 4cyl does wonder, around 160hp 160tq, great interior quality.
But you have to love the look...I personally like it a lot in teal grey

None of the above, particularly if they're not made in Canada or USA or Mexico.
My vote goes for the Ford Fusion.
I had a rental last year, and I was really surprised how good of a car it is. Yes, you can get it in a manual tranny, althoough I wouldn't since the 6 speed auto is very good indeed.
Being a family car, you're not going to be driving it on a race course, so stick with the auto tranny.
And furthermost, you'll keep the money in North America as I believe the new ones are assembled in Wayne, Indiana.
0$ down
0% interest for 36 months
0$ security deposit
0$ on delivery
0$ downpayment....

I'd still never buy a Hyundai for personal consumption but if my mom was looking for a nice reliable car in that price range, I wouldn't hesitate. They've really got their act together and their warranty, financing options and credit protection plans make it a nobrainer for me.

Hyundai came a longway.. just like when Honda first came to NA... look at the Genesis, so dont write them off.. came with nice design too at a good price...
to OP, you can never go wrong with a Civic, nice design.. reliable,
the interest rate might prevent you from looking at the new mazda3 sedan, how about the new vibe?
