You beat me to it, I was about to answer with the same idea.

Here's the deal: As long as groups keep labelling themselves in prideful ways, they will be labeled in discriminatory ways as well. You can't have the good, without the bad. When people actually begin to stop thinking of themselves in terms of specific groups, only then will others stop to do so as well, and will generalizations and stereotyping end.
