He could be referring to the fact that he started as a corny teen drama crossover star (see Will Smith) who managed to secure a large portion of legitimate hip hop fan market in his camp (unlike Will Smith). Like Rick Ross, his popularity grows despite what most would think is a crippling resume. Pun intended.
Now he has more #1 rap singles than anyone in history. Jay-Z, Eminem, 50 Cent, Kanye, Wayne, anyone. That's pretty incredible for someone whose music career is essentially 4 years old.
