after waiting a week for the vanos bolt to come in, I noticed quite a difference in the feel and length of the old bolts vs the new ones, so since I ordered two I swapped them both out. I should of took a picture of the old bolts too, but I just wanted to start my engine up so bad that I forgot to and placed the old bolt somewhere in the trash. But yeah if anyone is going to take on the vanos seals I think its better that you replace the bolts anyway because after 200k and 10+ years of being pulled on, the bolt will face extreme shear and tension forces on it as its always pulling against the cam, stretching the bolt and weakening it, so yeah thats just my 2 cents on this.
