It requires power, also it's secured using 2 sided tape and the base is detachable from the camera itself. Usually dashcams aren't moved around, this leaves a smaller foot print than a suction cup would, but it's not reusable. It does come with an extra piece of 2 sided adhesive,
So technically you can mount it externally but you'll have a power wire running to it. (The wire is 10ft long) But Dashcams aren't really designed to be used externally.
