I'm sure that the engineers at BMW have equipped the M5 with brakes that are sufficient enough to stop the car they've produced. exceptional as far as a street car goes, on the track there is always better, I am pretty sure even factory BMW track built race cars have upgraded brakes.
the later and faster you can brake consistently means more time with in throttle, which means faster lap times, so they do slow down a car but also allow it to be faster
