I swear I'm going to have like 10 cars when I start working. Why spend $20,000 on a decent car? All will be in various states of repair. Doesn't matter if one doesn't work one day, I'll have nine more. Plus, a garage/shed full of E30's or other pre-1990 BMWs is pretty awesome.
Then I can justify spending my free time in the garage doing engine builds and being what I can only describe as a mechanical Frankenstein.
