Better off removing the carpet and doing it that way and letting it thoroughly dry out. one must know what he is doing in order to make sure carpet it completely dry!
I was just talking about the removable carpet mats(the ones you put your feet on)... Not the one that has to have the interior stripped to be removed. That would be a very bad move to wash it while its still in the car. No idea where you got the idea about the carpet inside the car.
