You can defend and go on tangents all you want, but the fact is that automotive enthusiasts who appreciate something other than a 2-ton plus luxury sedan know that a K20 Civic is pretty quick, and understand that it would be ignorant to believe otherwise.
They're not close. A stock Civic Si is close with an E46 330i maybe. That Civic runs 15.1 in the 1/4 at 95 MPH. That's from C&D. Even if you assume a tenth or two in either direction variance, it's nowhere close to a 540i that can run 14.0 as a stick or 14.3ish with a slushbox. In the late 90s I used to borrow my dad's 540i-6 and run with (stock) LT1 Camaros.
